Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Will course rosters be automatically uploaded into D2L like they are for Blackboard?

Answer: Yes, we will have full integration with our campus systems when we go live in August 2005.

Question: Will the photo rosters be available inside of D2L?

Answer: No, the photo rosters will continue to reside at the iThink site (http://ithink.ou.edu). There are no plans to ever remove the photos from the iThink site.

Question: How is the CMS Task Force handling the publicity of this initiative? Are you afraid that people will be surprised when they come back in Fall and there is no Blackboard?

Answer: An official announcement was sent out of the Provost's office to local newspapers. Otherwise, publicity will be handled by training representatives from each of the Colleges and Information Technology.

Question: Why are we not having a mass migration of all the Blackboard courses into D2L? Someone said that there was a problem doing this?

Answer: There is not a problem doing a mass migration of content from our Blackboard system into D2L. The reason we are not doing this is that we want to start the new D2L system off with fresh content. If we were to bring over the Blackboard entire system, there would be a lot of unused and old courses. It would create a lot of unnecessary work to sort through and then remove anything we didn't need. The Task Force agreed we should simplify this by having instructors archive their BB courses and import them. This way they can decide what they really want/need to bring over.

Question: What is WebDav?

Answer: Web Dav is facilitated by creating a web folder accessible via your web browser. This allows you to see your directory, folders, and subfolders inside Desire2Learn, and to drag-and-drop files or folders up to the server, or down from the server. Think of it as dragging and dropping files from one place on your computer to another - except you will be dropping them into your D2L directory!
