Nominations
for the Kinney-Sugg Outstanding Professor Award in the College
of Arts and Sciences should be submitted to the dean. Selection
will be by a committee of faculty and alumni appointed by the
dean, and the award will be officially presented at the fall
faculty meeting in October.
Established through a generous contribution from Sandy Kinney
and Sugg, this award is given annually to a member of
the faculty at the rank of assistant professor or higher
who has completed at least two years of service in the College
of Arts and Sciences and who has established a record of
outstanding teaching and scholarship. Outstanding teaching
should be demonstrated through student-teacher evaluations
and additional information such as student or peer letters
of support, sample syllabi, course materials, etc. The nominee
should be a model teacher, recognized for dedication, effectiveness,
and the ability to inspire students to high levels of achievement.
Outstanding scholarship should be demonstrated through peer-reviewed
publications, prestigious fellowships, external grant support,
and other forms of peer recognition.
The letter of nomination from the chair (with input from
the other members of Committee A) should be no longer than
two pages. Supporting evidence should be put in a concise
appendix.
A department may nominate no more than one person for any
year.
The recipient will receive a one-time award of $5,000 that
may be used either as a salary supplement or in support of
teaching and/or scholarship and will have their name placed
on a plaque for permanent display in the college office. |
