Call for Proposals for the
FOCAS* Distinguished Lecture Series
Purpose:
Proposals are solicited for the FOCAS* Distinguished Lecture Series of the
College of Arts and Sciences. The FOCAS* Distinguished Lecture Series is intended to
provide an opportunity to bring distinguished speakers to campus to invigorate the
intellectual and cultural life of the College of Arts and Sciences and to focus public
attention on the quality of the academic programs of the College.

All units of the College of Arts and Sciences are eligible to submit proposals to
bring a distinguished speaker to campus. The speaker should be of sufficient stature or

and faculty as determined by the host unit.
NOTE: Awardees must contact the dean's office for official wording to be included on all promotional materials.
Proposal Application:
The proposal should include a curriculum vitae or biography of the proposed
speaker, the topic or title of the public address, a description of the proposed activities
involving students and faculty, a letter of support by the chair or director of the unit, and
a tentative budget. Use the attached form to itemize the budget. A maximum of $5,000
will be provided by the College of Arts and Sciences. Funds from other sources may also
