Online Course Initiative

Open Request for Proposals

 

The College of Arts and Sciences invites proposals for the development of entirely web-delivered courses. Although proposals may be submitted at any time, they must be submitted a minimum of six months in advance of the semester in which courses will first be offered online.

As an incentive to participate, faculty who are selected to develop a course may choose to receive either:

  • One course release time ($3,000 to the department for an instructor to cover the release course), OR
  • Professional development funds in the amount of $3,000 to the faculty member. Professional development funds may be used for travel, books, supplies, equipment, assistant salaries, etc.

E ligibility :
All faculty within the College who are engaged in teaching are eligible to apply for these funds.

Application :
To apply, prepare a brief proposal of no more than two pages that includes the following:

  • Course description and semester in which the online course will be offered;
  • A brief statement of methods that will be used to deliver content completely online; and
  • A letter of endorsement from the department chair

Evaluation:
Proposals will be evaluated by College of Arts and Sciences Computing staff and by the Dean.

College Statement of Support:
The College of Arts and Sciences is committed to offering high quality web-delivered courses. Accordingly, the College will provide consultation and support to faculty members who make a commitment to this effort to help them achieve the educational objectives of the course. It is expected that grant recipients will meet performance evaluations and cooperate with College computing staff to meet applicable project deadlines. Recipients are expected to submit reports on course development status when requested. Once developed, the scheduling and staffing of the course is the responsibility of the academic unit under whose auspices it is offered.
