Norman - Peter G. Pierce III, president of First Bethany Bancorp, is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for his dedication to the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma. The award will be presented at the college’s Kaleidoscope Evening beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in the ballroom of Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave., Norman.
Pierce graduated from OU with a degree in classical languages and went on to complete a law degree at Southern Methodist University. After practicing law for 16 years, he joined First Bethany Bancorp. In 1999, Pierce co-founded with A. Thomas Loy MetaFund Corp., a large non-profit multi-bank community development financial institution. From 1997 to 2000, he was a senior associate at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a member of the Saguaro Seminar: Civic Engagement in America.
Pierce has served on the college’s Board of Visitors, has been an active mentor to students in the Leadership Scholars program and has taught several classes at OU, including “Social Capitalism: Theory and Practice” and “Life After OU: A Survival Guide.” In addition to his work on behalf of the college and the Department of Classics and Letters, Pierce is a member of numerous civic organizations, including the Oklahoma Academy, Citzens League and Leadership Oklahoma City.
