NEW LEBANON WAR TO BE TOPIC OF BROWN-BAG LUNCH AT OU

NORMAN – Moshe Ma’oz, professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will discuss “The New Lebanon War: Causes and Repercussions,” at a brown-bag lunch at noon Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the Associates Room of Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave.

Ma’oz specializes in Syrian, Palestinian and Arab-Israeli relations. Prior to his current teaching position at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Ma’oz held scholarly positions at the Middle East Institute, Harvard University, the Brookings Institution and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

He has twice served as the director of the Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace at Hebrew University and has served as an adviser to Israeli Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres, and Defense Minister Ezer Weizman. Ma’oz also served on the Knesset Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense.

Ma’oz received his doctoral degree in history of the modern Middle East from St. Anthony’s College at the University of Oxford and his master’s degree from Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
