NORMAN – Friends and alumni of the University of Oklahoma’s Biological Station will visit the station for a fun-filled weekend Oct. 19 through 21 while raising money for scholarships.
A number of exciting and interesting activities are planned, including field trips, a facilities tour, an auction and a fishing contest for children.
The highlight of the weekend will be a lecture and bird tours by world-renowned ornithologist, author and illustrator David Allen Sibley. Sibley will lead bird tours on Saturday and Sunday mornings for pre-registered participants. His lecture, titled “Birds and Bird Guides,” is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sibley will be available to autograph copies of his bird guides prior to and following his lecture. All proceeds from the bird tours, lecture and auction will benefit the Biological Station’s scholarship fund.
The Biological Station, a unit of the College of Arts and Sciences, was founded in 1949 and is a permanent, year-round field station located on the north shore of Lake Texoma. The weekend is organized by the Friends of the University of Oklahoma Biological Station, established in 2001 under the umbrella of the OU Alumni Association, with the purpose of promoting and supporting the Biological Station on Lake Texoma.
