Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy offers programs of study in two undergraduate degrees: B.A. in Philosophy and B.A. in Ethics and Religion. They also offer a masters degree (thesis or non-thesis) and a doctoral degree in philosophy. The department offers broad training in the major fields of philosophy, with particular strengths in ethics, the history of ancient and modern philosophy, logic, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of language, philosophy of science, philosophy of social science, philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, and political philosophy.

The department offers a variety of speakers and colloquia, including the David Ross Boyd Lectures, which have attracted lecturers such as Jerry Fodor and Jaegwon Kim in recent years; the Undergraduate Philosophy Conference; and brown bag talks. In the fall of 2005, Dr. Linda Zagzebski will give her Phi Beta Kappa/Romanell Professorship in Philosophy lecture series. Zagzebski is the first recipient of the professorship in the state of Oklahoma.
