Rebecca Craig-Schapiro:
2005 Carl Albert Award recipient
The College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce Rebecca Craig-Schapiro as the 40th recipient of the Carl Albert Award, given each year to an outstanding senior in the college.
Rebecca is a biochemistry and microbiology major with a minor in Chinese and will graduate in May with the designation of summa cum laude.
A member of the Honors College, Rebecca also works in researching protein expression and purification as part of a mentoring program at OU's Health Sciences Center. She also volunteers at Hospice of Oklahoma County, the Center for Children and Families Neighborhood Centers and in Alpha Phi Omega. She serves on OU's Academic Appeals and Misconduct Committees and is the vice chair of the pre-medical honor society Alpha Epsilon Delta. In her spare time, she enjoys playing soccer and reading.
Following graduation, Rebecca will report to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in June to begin work on her M.D./ Ph.D. degree.
"I feel that the medical community can sometimes be overlooked as leaders in society. I want to be on the forefront of leadership in my capacity as a physician and researcher to affect more people's lives," said Rebecca. She would like to continue her research into how to target proteins that cause disease as well as practice medicine. Currently, she is interested in becoming a surgeon.
Rebecca will be recognized at a reception at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 in Beaird Lounge at the Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave. The public is welcome to attend.
