Emily Johnson named 2005 Irene Rothbaum Outstanding Assistant Professor

The ninth recipient of the Irene Rothbaum Outstanding Assistant Professor Award was announced at the Spring Faculty Meeting on Tuesday, April 26. Emily Johnson, assistant professor of Russian in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, received a plaque and a check for $2,500 in recognition of her dedication to the art of teaching.

Dean Bell surprised Johnson in her classroom on Tuesday morning with a balloon bouquet. That afternoon, a luncheon was held in her honor, where she was presented with the plaque and the check.

The late Julian Rothbaum, a long-time supporter of the college, established the award nine years ago to honor his late wife. Nominees must be tenure-tenure track assistant professors with at least two complete years in rank at OU. Outstanding credentials as teachers as shown by student-teacher evaluations, chair recommendations and letters of support from peers or students are also taken into consideration. Johnson's name also will be engraved on a plaque in Ellison 132. Congratulations on this wonderful honor!
