Presidential Dream Courses Awarded to
Five Departments in A&S

The College of Arts and Sciences houses five out of six departments to receive Presidential Dream course status for the 2005-2006 academic year.

The departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Communication, English, History of Science and Religious Studies all are recipients for this year’s special funding.

Recipients include Kathleen Crowther-Heyck, assistant professor in history of science; Jill Edy, assistant professor of communication; Jill Irvine, associate professor in the Religious Studies program; Susan Kates, associate professor of English and Ralph Wheeler, professor of chemistry and biochemistry.

Robert M. Entman, author of Democracy without Citizens and The Black Image in the White Mind, will visit the OU campus on Monday, March 6 as part of Jill Edy's Presidential Dream Course. Entman will discuss "A Public Scandal: News Coverage of Official Misconduct." His lecture will be held at 3 p.m. in the Scholars Room, OMU, 900 Asp Ave. It is free and open to the public.

International Women's Day, March 8th

The Women's Studies program will celebrate International Women's Day with several booths in the first floor of Dale Hall on Wednesday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants include the Women's Outreach Center, N.E.W. Leadership Project, Carl Albert Center, Women's Resource Center, Episcopal Women's History Project and World Neighbor's Work of Women. Crafts produced by women in Africa, Asian and Latin America will be on sale during that time. For more information, contact the program at (405) 325-3481.

Congratulations to Rufus Fears, recipient of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Medal of Excellence. Fears will be honored at the Foundation's 20th annual Academic Awards banquet May 20 in Tulsa.
