A&S Departments offer Film Screenings

Monday and Tuesday will offer the public an array of films from Australia, Mexico and the United States for free screenings.

On Monday, Nov. 5, Gena Ellis' "Angela's Decision" and Sterlin Harjo's "Four Sheets to the Wind," starting at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively, will be presented in Meacham Auditorium, OMU. Screenwriter Ellis will discuss her screenplay and director/screenwriter Harjo will discuss his experiences as a filmmaker and in attending the Sundance Institute. Sponsored by Film and Video Studies, the Union Programming Board and the College of Liberal Studies. For more information, call the FVS office at (405) 325-7135.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, the Native American Studies Program welcomes Filoteo Gomez Martinez, a video-maker from the Mixe region of Oaxaca, who will present his work "Dulce Convivencia" and two other videos from the Ojo de Agua Comunicacion and Mal do Ojo, video collectives in the region. The presentation begins at 5 p.m. in 218 Dale Hall. A discussion will accompany the screening. For more information, contact the NAS office at (405) 325-2312.

Dave Hambright, associate professor of zoology and member of the University of Oklahoma Biological Station, received a five-year commitment of more than $1.5 million from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for his research on the invasive and toxic golden alga, Prymnesium parvum, which may negatively affect recreationally important species of fish, such as the striped bass.
