Description: Prerequisite: 1113 or permission of instructor. An analysis of the sociological literature on the American system of criminal justice, viewed as a system of social control. Emphasis is on the functional significance of the system in relation to the various interests represented in the law. Attention given to special problems in each of the major components of the system: law enforcement, the administration of justice and corrections.
