If you are teaching a Capstone Course or a senior seminar, you may want to think about including a portfolio in your assessment process.

e-Portfolio defined:
An e-Portfolio is an electronic, or digital portfolio that contains a collection of documents that demonstrate skills, education, and professional development. One of the advantages of using an e-portfolio is that it provides evidence of gradual improvement over time, or a selection of the individual’s best work.

I. Why include a portfolio in your assessment process?
What are some reasons for incorporating portfolios into the assessment process? What learning goals can be assessed by this method? By viewing this page you will find some of the answers to these questions.

II. Samples of portfolios categorized according to discipline.
Examining sample portfolios created by students at other universities is an excellent way to help students begin thinking about organizing the content and layout of their own portfolios.

III. Thinking about developing an e-Portfolio.
Before instructing students to begin gathering work for their portfolios, it’s important to think about the purpose of an e-portfolio. On this page you will find some links that might help students begin thinking about the various types of e-portfolios and selecting appropriate content.

IV. Building an e-Portfolio
Students may choose from a variety of software programs to use in the development of their e-Portfolios. Choices include (but are not limited to) PowerPoint, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Publisher, FrontPage, or Adobe Acrobat, In-Design, Go-Live, or Microsoft Word. After students have developed their e-Portfolios, they have several options for storing and displaying content. Students can upload their e-Portfolios onto the Internet using their student or faculty web space provided by OU, upload it through Desire2Learn, or save it on a CD ROM or jump drive. On this page you will find links to online resources that assist students in the development of their e-Portfolios.
