COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
    Online Course Initiative
 Open Request for Proposals

The College of Arts and Sciences invites proposals for the development of entirely web-delivered courses. Although proposals may be submitted at any time, they must be submitted a minimum of six months in advance of the semester in which courses will first be offered online.

As an incentive to participate, departments receive $3000 for each course developed. They may use the funds to release a faculty member from teaching to develop the course or provide professional development funds to the faculty member developing the course. (Professional development funds may be used for travel, books, supplies, equipment, assistant salaries, or other related purposes.)

Eligibility:
With the approval of their academic unit, any faculty member in the College may develop and/or teach online courses (excluding courses offered exclusively through Continuing Education, i.e., Advanced Programs and Intersession courses). Courses proposed for online course development grants must have permanent course numbers and be a part of the regularly-scheduled offerings of the academic department. Departments are free to offer one-time or experimental online courses, including variable topic courses, but these courses are not eligible for online course development grant funding.

Application:
To apply, prepare a brief proposal of no more than two pages that includes the following:

  • Course description and semester in which the online course will be offered;
  • A brief statement of methods that will be used to deliver content completely online; and
  • A letter of endorsement from the department chair

Please submit the proposal (either in print or electronically) to Karen Cozart, ELLH 323, kcozart@ou.edu

Evaluation:
Proposals will be evaluated by College of Arts and Sciences Online Education Program staff and by the Dean.

College Statement of Support:
The College of Arts and Sciences is committed to offering high quality web-delivered courses.  Accordingly, the College will provide consultation and support to faculty members who make a commitment to this effort to help them achieve the educational objectives of the course. It is expected that course developers will meet performance evaluations and cooperate with College computing staff to meet applicable project deadlines. Course developers are expected to submit reports on course development status when requested. Once developed, the scheduling and staffing of the course is the responsibility of the academic unit under whose auspices it is offered.
